Week 3 - Chapter 1
In chapter 1, "Information Systems" teaches us about how important computers and technology are in today's world. It explains why it is useful to understand how these systems work and how they can help us in our jobs.
It talks about different kinds of computer systems that organizations use to do their work better, like keeping track of sales or managing inventory. It also shows how technology changes the way managers work and even affects our daily lives.
Figure 1.5 shows how these four components interact to form a CBIS
The text provides an overview of computer-based information systems (CBIS) within organizations, emphasizing their role in processing data into useful information and knowledge. (Gray, H., et all, 2014)
It outlines the components of CBIS, including hardware, software, databases, networks, procedures, and users, discussing various types of CBIS like transaction processing systems and enterprise resource planning systems.
IT impacts modern organizations by recreating job opportunities while posing challenges such as job insecurity and health concerns. Some concerns are providing adaptive technologies for people with disabilities. This also transforms decision-making processes and enhances productivity to lead in a job elimination through automation.
IT summarizes the important highlights of being knowledgeable about information systems for organizational benefits and technological awareness. And it discusses the impacts of information technology on managers and non-managerial workers, emphasizing both positive and negative effects.

Nice post!
ReplyDeleteI particularly liked you point "IT summarizes the important highlights of being knowledgeable about information systems for organisational benefits and technological awareness."
I also think its vital for organisations to be educated about technology considering the changes it can bring to organisations if they are not prepared for it. A key example would be the elderly who struggle with basic computing who would be disadvantaged due to a lack of skillset when applying for new job or even maintaining their current role.
Informative Summary. I like how you used the image to further your summary, using information from the text book and providing further discussion of what the image was about.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was great how you summarised the lesson and included a picture, as well as how you highlighted the most important topics and discussed the benefits and drawbacks of technology.
ReplyDeleteThe post flowed along nicely in regard to the chapter order. Good point made about how being knowledgeable with IT systems is beneficial for ourselves "for organisational benefits and technological awareness" but through all this tech advancements it is still important to be informed about "challenges such as job insecurity and health concerns."
ReplyDeleteGood work Jas.
Nice work Jaz! The way your summary is structured is not only clear and easy to understand but it also has a nice aesthetic touch to it. It flowed well, and ended with a clear and concise summary at the end!
ReplyDeletekilled it. Everything was easy to understand
